UPS power system device
An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is a device for continuous power supply during short-term failures in a centralized network. In automated uninterruptible power supply systems, UPSs are used to compensate for voltage, frequency and current surges when switching the load from the main network to the diesel generator and vice versa.

In a simplified form, the device of the UPS power system can be represented as a battery and devices for compensating for fluctuations in the current parameters in the network. The standard set of compensation devices includes an inverter, a rectifier and a filter; in some cases, an external or built-in bypass is connected to the three standard elements.
Types of uninterruptible power supplies
Based on the construction scheme and the specifics of the application, there are three main types of UPS – redundant, interactive and double conversion. Redundant UPSs automatically connect pantographs to the battery through the inventory and are used to power secondary production lines and low-power equipment, secondary production lines, telephone switches, cash registers, terminals and PCs.
Interactive UPSs are characterized by the separation of input and output by means of filtering and stabilizing devices; energy consumers are connected through the inventory. The advantages of interactive UPSs include fast pantograph switching and a wide operating voltage range; the main areas of application are office computer networks, lighting systems, console security and emergency notification systems, automation devices.
Double conversion UPSs first convert the input current to DC and then back to AC with an inverter. Power is supplied to pantographs via the bypass, providing instantaneous transfer to emergency power and pure sine wave output; this eliminates any interference and sudden power surges. The use of a double conversion UPS is preferred for critical and highly sensitive equipment – leased lines, medical equipment, industrial control systems, security systems, etc.
Basic requirements that industrial UPSs must meet
High reliability and fault tolerance, resistance to non-standard frequencies and voltages, good tolerance of short-term overloads are expected, but not the only requirements for a UPS. For reliable operation of automated production lines, an industrial uninterruptible power supply must meet a number of requirements:
- large output power;
- wide operating temperature range;
- long service life and upgradeability;
- galvanic separation of DC and AC circuits;
- reserve reserve power of batteries and external power supplies;
- resistance to aggressive environments, vibrations, shocks and electromagnetic fields.
